Gary trained in the West End City of London, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1982. He was admitted as a Fellow in 1992

Gary founded the firm on the following major principles:

  1. We would undertake all of our work promptly.
  2. We would communicate well with clients.
  3. We would be proactive in our advice.

Gary's view is his part in building the talented team of people we now have and helping our clients prosper has been undoubtedly his greatest achievement.

Gary’s biggest ambition for the future is to help and create an environment where our clients and our staff can succeed.

Some may say that Gary has too many hobbies. His biggest passion, most people will know, is his interest in Formula 1, followed closely by travel, photography and scuba diving.

Joanne Brown FCCA - Partner

Joanne Brown FCCA profile picture

Jo joined the firm in 1991 as a trainee accountant and qualified in 2000, becoming a partner in 2006. Jo runs a portfolio of larger Limited Companies dealing with the production of audit and accounts work, corporation tax returns and all other yearly compliance work. Other areas where Jo can assist are; liaising with the Revenue regarding tax enquiries/ investigations, advice re business sales and acquisitions and general bookkeeping and payroll advice. Jo is the firms Compliance Partner and holds an Audit Registration certificate. On a personal side, she very much enjoys the fun that having two teenage boys entails – never a dull moment! Travel and a good book are also high on the agenda. Jo is also a trustee of a local charity which she is passionate about and enjoys that input and interaction with the other board members.

Elaine Pavis FCA MAAT - Managing Partner

Elaine Beal FCA MAAT profile picture

Elaine qualified as an Accountant in 1992. She joined Gary Sargeant + Company on 22nd May 2000 as a portfolio manager and became an equity partner on 1st May 2010. She runs the largest portfolio in our accounts and audit department and is often deemed our "sage expert".

Joanne Spry FCCA profile picture

Jo qualified as an accountant in 1993 and joined Sargeant Partnership LLP in January 2001. Jo is a client manager looking after various clients that include solicitors, charities and small limited companies. Jo is currently working 3 days a week, allowing her time to play tennis and have extra time for her various hobbies. Jo has 2 children and enjoys travelling with her family. She is also a massive Take That fan!

Becky joined the firm in May 2013 as an experienced Accounts Assistant in the Small Business Department. Over the past six years she has worked closely with the managers assisting with the continued growth of the department and the expansion of our Bookkeeping and VAT departments. Becky is now a Manager and runs her own portfolio of clients as well as managing the Bookkeeping and VAT department. Becky deals with many Sole Traders, Partnerships Accounts and Self-Assessment Tax Returns, and overseas a majority of the firms Bookkeeping and VAT work. She is currently studying her ATT to gain further tax knowledge.

Gemma May AAT ATT – Tax Senior

Gemma May

Gemma started her career in accountancy at a small firm in Bromley in 2003 after taking a year out to travel. There she completed her AAT qualification before moving to a top 10 accountancy firm also in Bromley. Since then she has completed her ATT qualification and has 17 years’ plus experience providing personal tax advice to a diverse range of clients.

Gemma works four days a week in our personal tax department providing our clients with the advice and assistance they need.

When Gemma is not at work she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Gemma is a fitness enthusiast and in the past has represented Great Britain at age group level in triathlon, travelling to Lusanne and Hawaii to race.

Ian Gregory - Tax Associate

Ian Gregory profile picture

Ian started his career in tax working for the Inland Revenue as it then was. After working for several large firms of accountants he was working for a national firm of tax consultants when he first came across Gary Sargeant + Company of Swanley. Having enjoyed some successes advising the firm and resolving matters with the Inland Revenue, Gary asked him to become the firm’s Tax Associate.

Ian specialises in advising on all forms of direct taxation for individuals, trusts and companies.

Ian has two daughters, one who aspires to be a lawyer and the other to be an economist. When not reading tax books such as the Red books, Ian sometimes turns up at his local golf club and tries to play golf.

Jane Croxton ACCA – Payroll Manager

Jane Croxton profile picture

Jane started at Sargeant Partnership LLP in July 1999 as an administration assistant. After a couple of years she moved into the accounts department and started studying for her ACCA qualification where she went on to qualify in February 2008. Jane has since moved into the payroll department where she has taken the role of payroll manager. Outside of work Jane enjoys spending time with her family, socialising with friends, Kettlebell classes and walking her beagle.

Sarah Pearson ACA – Practice Accounts Manager

Sarah Pearson ACA profile picture

Sarah joined the firm on a part time basis in 1996. She qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1989. Sarah’s main responsibility at the current time is as the practice accountant. She is also responsible for the Company Secretarial department and provides managements accounts for clients. She is married with two teenage daughters and a mad terrier. The past ten years have been spent on a very hands on self build project; her aim at the moment is to live in a house that is completely finished. The end is in sight, so Sarah and her husband have now turned their attention to the garden, the aim being to transform what was a field into a lovely garden.
